Tips & Tricks
and what we have heard or learned - more to come
I use the Hokamix products for my dogs.
I find they work very
well for us and I usually combine it with salmon oil, wheatgerm oil or hokamix's own oil "Skin & Shine". It's easier for a Chow Chow to take these blended together
instead of over the food where I found out that most of it
are ending up in the disher.
I buy it in Denmark since it's too expensive in Sweden. I buy big and have to longer time and even with the shipping it's much cheaper than in Sweden. THINK ABOUT THIS if you are planning on using it.
I use Bio Active Dog® for my dogs.
It's amino acids in tablet form. (more here in Swedish)
Since the dog only have a very short smaller intestine it's difficult for them to receive and take up all the amino acids that they have a use for since through fabricated food then the amino acids is changed too. And amino acids are the building blocks for our & the dog's cells....without them - yeah , we just get sick and get all kind of different diseases and it's the same for our beloved dogs.
In the beginning I used to give it to them with natural creamy cheese. It's easy just to put a little "click" on the tablets and down they go. But only after a few days all of them where taking them without any cheese on and now when I take the can they come running to get - it has become a treat to them :-)
My Chows simply loves them and I think they know it's good for them.
I always listen carefully to the veterinarians and afterwards
I go home to search and learn more on the internet.
I always
try to be as involved and know as much as possible. More eyes
are often better than just one - I find.
I also talk to others through forums or personal friends. Sorry to say it folks, but if I don't agree - then I don't agree and I don't understand why I should say what other wants to hear - I tell my opinion and the honest one and if I have read a lot about a disease then I tell the vet or the vets. And if I'm not happy with one - I go to the next. And the vets I use knows this. I'm really a pain in the ash but I want to have the best - no matter what! And I don't give up!
Our dogs means the world to us and only the best is good enough.
When using salmon oil or fish oil - do take into consideration that most of the prducts out there uses ethoxyquin as a preservative for the oil. Ethoxyquin may give cancer!
There are a few products that uses natural ingredients as preservative for the fish-oil! IF you want to know which you are welcome to send me an email and I'll tell you what I know.
Blueberry is not only good for the eyes - it's a very strong antioxidant and can even neutralize food-poisoning together with a diet.
Of course you already now understands that my Chows gets that too - but not every day!
Lena from Kennel Kurant (German Shepherd) knows all about this.
BARF or raw food. I don't know from where this comes that dogs should have the same food because they have sensitive stomachs. Mine gets all kind of food both raw food, kibbles and wet food (you probably understand that I'm not one of them that says that no matter the prize, the dried dog food is the same ---- I DON'T - I believe and sees that there is difference).
My chows loves to be surprised with new dishes or new food - not that they like it all....they are CHOWS ! ;-)
